Monthly lunches
The Newcomers' Club hosts a monthly luncheon every 4th Tuesday with a variety of entertaining and interesting speakers at various restaurants, hotels and clubs in the Metro New Orleans area. The luncheon is a wonderful way to meet the members of the organization, learn something new about New Orleans and sample the restaurants our fine city has to offer! All of the membership has a standing invitation to attend. Prospective members and guests of members are always welcome. Reservations should be made in advance.
Monthly Area Coffees
A good way to meet members is to attend a coffee. They are held at 10:00 am on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at members' homes in the different areas of the city.
Gourmet Group
Members of the Gourmet group pick out a delightful, often themed, menu and members alternate in preparing the repast. The Gourmet group meets September to May at a member's home on the second Saturday of the month in the evening. Friends and Family are welcome to attend.
Lazy Gourmet
If cooking is not for you, then you'll enjoy visiting area restaurants monthly (usually held on weekends). Dinners are usually multi-course and fixed price. Friends and Family are welcome to attend.
Book Group
On the 3rd Tuesday of each month, members meet at a location after the monthly coffee to discuss a book selected the month before and enjoy camaraderie.
Discover New Orleans/Arts and Crafts
Members meet at a different location periodically to discover something unique about the city or participate in an art or craft activity. Day trips, ceramics workshops, and toffee-making are several ways this committee has sampled the beauty of our city.
Card Parties
Card parties are held from time to time. Bridge and Canasta are always offered, but other games are offered as desired.
Bunko Nights
Bunko Nights are held at a member's home throughout the year on Saturday nights. Refreshments are served and a nominal fee is charged. Friends and Family are welcome to attend. Prizes for winning and losing players are awarded.
In addition to forming hobby groups and holding other social functions, the club members contribute their love, time and monies to the girls of Raintree House, a residential facility for adolescent girls.
